When is it necessary to treat ovarian cysts ? A large propaortion of cysts will dissappear on their own and surgery is only raally necessary in the minority of case. The following guidelines will give a rough indication. The final decission depends on the patient and her medical practionar. 1 . Large cysts,usually larger than 5 cm in diameter. 2 If the cyst persistrs without rupturing. ( usually longer than 8 -12 weeks. 3 It the cysts contains solid areas ( on ultrasonic(sonar)) examinations . 4 The patient finds the pain unbearrble and wants it removed.
